Blood Type Diet

Blood Type Diet

Dr Peter D’Adamo, naturopath and creator of the Blood Type Diet claims in his book Eat Right For Your Blood Type, that our blood group determines how our bodies deal with different nutrients. He claims that if you follow a diet specific to your blood type, your body will digest and absorb food with a great deal more efficiency. By doing this Dr D’Adamo claims that by doing this your body will shed excess weight.

He also believes that the different blood types evolved at different times during human evolution. Because of this we need to consume a diet based on the types of foods our ancestors would have consumed at the time when our blood type was first recognized.

So, when did your blood type first appear?

D’Adamo says that the Blood Group O was the first blood type to be identified.Because our ancestors lived on a predominately meat diet, D’Adamo claims that those with O type blood should should follow a high protein low-carbohydrate diet with plenty of meat, fish and olive oil. Foods such as eggs, nuts, seeds, certain vegetables and fruits can be eaten moderately. The foods to avoid include dairy products, beans, cereals, bread, pasta and rice. As far as exercise is concerned, Dr D’Adamo recommends vigorous aerobic exercise such as aerobics and running.

Blood type A,follows type O. This period was approximately around 15,000 B.C! During this time they were apparently eating a more vegetarian based diet, hence his suggestion that those with blood type A should today follow a diet high in vegetables and also avoid dairy. This means nuts, seeds, beans, cereals, pasta, rice, fruit and vegetables are all ok to eat. D’Adamo suggests type A’s should take up such exercises as yoga or golf.

Next group is Blood type B. This was reported to have evolved around 10,000 B.C. Apparently our forebears started moving around a bit and therefore were exposed to many different types of foods. Hence they can get away with eating many types of foods, including meat, dairy, grains and vegetables. The only foods that need to be avoided are processed foods. Carbs should only be eaten in moderation. Nuts and seeds should be avoided by type B’s. He also suggests hiking, tennis and swimming for this group.

Lucky last is blood type AB. AB showed up approximately 1,000 years ago. Dr D’Adamo suggests that type AB follow a majority veg etarian diet with meat, fish and dairy in moderation. This Blood type must follow an exercise regime with both calming and moderately intense activities.

Good luck and happy dieting.
