Alkaline Diet

There are a number of people worldwide who are advocating the benefits of an alkaline diet. The diet is also referred to as the acid alkaline diet. The diet is gaining in popularity and exposure. Although it is increasing in popularity, many still claim that the benefits of the diet are not conclusive. Having read a number of books about alkaline type diets, I can honestly say that I would struggle with the diet in the long term. They can be quite restrictive by nature, allowing mostly moderate to highly alkaline foods.

The premise of the diet is that our blood is slightly alkaline, and has a normal pH of between 7.35 and 7.45 and therefore our diet should be at approximately the same ph level as was the case with our ancestors. By achieving this slightly alkaline balance we restore the balance to our bodies and reduce the loss of essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium . Many of the supporters of the acid alkaline diet claim that when our bodies are more acidic, we are more prone to illness.
